How to Take the Perfect Pet Photo for 3D Printing

Matt12/15/20245 min read

Getting a great 3D print of your pet starts with a great photo. Here are our top tips for capturing images that will translate beautifully into a 3D sculpture.

Lighting is Everything

Natural light is your best friend. Try to photograph your pet:

  • Near a window during daytime
  • Outdoors on an overcast day (no harsh shadows)
  • In a well-lit room with multiple light sources
  • Avoid using flash as it can create harsh highlights and shadows that make it harder to capture details.

    Get Down to Their Level

The best pet photos are taken from your pet's eye level, not from above. Get on the floor if you need to! This perspective creates more engaging and natural-looking images.

    Focus on the Face

For pet portraits, we want to see:

  • Clear eyes with visible detail
  • The nose and snout in focus
  • Ears visible (if possible)
  • Fur texture visible
  • Multiple Angles Help

We recommend uploading 3-10 photos from different angles. This gives us options and helps ensure we can create the best possible 3D model.

    What to Avoid

  • Blurry photos
  • Extreme close-ups with distortion
  • Photos with heavy filters
  • Dark or silhouetted images
  • Photos where your pet is moving
